ACV2With summer just around the corner, I’ve been enjoying lighter meals and taste testing the Happy Body recipes.

If you haven’t grabbed your free copy of the Happy Body Starter Packet + 3 day meal plan – get it HERE.

Inside the packet, you’ll get info on how to reduce your intake of foods from the Standard American Diet (SAD). The SAD consists of acidic foods like coffee, sugar, soda, processed foods, animal products and unhealthy fats.

One the goals of the Happy Body program is to re-reset the body and jump start a healthy lifestyle. It does this by infusing your system meals full of alkaline foods like fruits, veggies and gluten free grains. Since you are filling up on the alkaline foods, naturally there is less room for acidic foods making the program accessible to all.

Today I wanted to share one of my new happy body secrets…

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)!

Despite its acidic nature ACV has many benefits:

  • Helping to restore you body’s delicate pH level
  • DIY, non-toxic cleaning products
  • Helps balance out your digestives system
  • Soothes sunburn
  • Natural remedy for heartburn
  • Encourages weight loss – A 2009 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry found that consuming acetic acid, the main ingredient in apple cider vinegar, leads to significant decline in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides after 12 weeks.

Often used in salad dressing, ACV can also be used in green smoothies! I have recently been experimenting with recipes and love the tart, tangy taste. Plus, it makes my face tingle and my body feel light and happy!

Dr. Taz Bhathia, from the Atlanta Center for Holsitic Medicine recommends 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar per day. But if you ever tired drinking ACV in water – yuck! This is a sneaky way to fit it into your day.

I was inspired to test a smoothie recipe with ACV and seriously thought I was going to have to throw it out but turns out I LOVED it.  It a refreshing smoothie perfect for warmer days.

Sneaky ACV Green Smoothie

  • ¾ c water
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 pear
  • ½ c kale (baby kale is what I used)
  • ½ c spinach
  • 1-2 TB ACV (start with 1 TB and work up to 2)
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Optional: ginger or handful of fresh basil (the basil is the secret ingredient)

Blend and enjoy!

I want to hear from you. Do you have a secret way to include ACV into your daily routine? If so, leave a comment below.
